SHAVNABADA WINE FESTIVAL
The Shavnabada Wine Festival is an annual celebration of Georgian wine culture that takes place in the village of Shavnabada, located just a short distance outside of Tbilisi. The festival is named after the Shavnabada Monastery, which is situated on a hill overlooking the village and is known for producing some of the finest wines in the region.
The festival typically takes place in September and attracts both locals and tourists alike. It is a chance for visitors to sample some of the best wines in Georgia, as well as to experience traditional Georgian music, dance, and food.
The festival usually begins with a procession to the Shavnabada Monastery, where visitors can sample some of the wine produced by the monks. The monastery has been producing wine for centuries, and its vineyards are known for their unique terroir and the use of traditional winemaking techniques.
After the wine tasting, visitors can enjoy a variety of traditional Georgian foods, including khachapuri (a type of cheese-filled bread) and khinkali (dumplings filled with meat or cheese). There are also a number of vendors selling local crafts and souvenirs.
Throughout the day, there are performances by traditional Georgian musicians and dancers, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage. Visitors can join in the dancing, or simply sit back and enjoy the music.
One of the highlights of the festival is the grape stomping competition, where teams compete to see who can stomp the most grapes in a set amount of time. This is a fun and lively event that attracts both participants and spectators.
The Shavnabada Wine Festival is a great way to experience the unique culture of Georgia and to sample some of its world-renowned wines. It is a must-visit event for any wine lover or cultural enthusiast traveling to the country.
